Which Tile For Which Use

This Forum seeks to serve as a meeting place for all those interested in ceramic, natural and artificial stone, or concrete tiles, in relation to the selection criteria for intended use, as constituents of a modular rigid covering that is required to have certain properties or characteristics to assure its durability and consistent appearance in time.

In recent years, progress has been made in drafting standards on rigid pieces for finishes, handbooks and guides have been published for the technical contextualisation of products in regard to their characteristics and fields of use, and there is a greater understanding of modular rigid coverings.

There are even guiding instruments for the selection of tiles based on service requirements, all aimed at facilitating the work of designers and specifications writers, but also at bringing these products closer to the end-consumer, who is generally the user and witness to their evolution.

However, something is still going wrong in the dissemination of information in the tile marketing, sales, and installation chain, because problems keeping repeating themselves, some being chronic, which not only affect the finish end quality but also its durability. Questions immediately arise about what causes those problems. A few such questions could be posed, but we have chosen to leave it entirely up to the Forum participants to choose the subjects and issues to be dealt with and to decide how to address them.
