RESUMEN

Josep Iglesias Brucart se inició en el coleccionismo de cerámica en la década de los setenta. En treinta y cinco años ha conseguido formar una de las colecciones de cerámica catalana más importantes que existen contando aproximadamente con un millar de azulejos de artes y oficios, más de un centenar de piezas de vajilla azul catalana de los siglos XVII y XVIII, varias docenas de botes de farmacia, y lo que es más importante, cerca de sesenta piezas de forma policromas del siglo XVII.

El mejor momento de la cerámica catalana en todos los órdenes se sitúa entre 1620 y 1720 aproximadamente, cuando las influencias italianas llegan a Cataluña de forma directa o indirecta. Al principio se evidencia la relación con los centros toscanos de Pisa y Montelupo, y más tarde con Deruta y los centros ligures. Pero las piezas policromas catalanas conservadas herederas de estas influencias son muy escasas, no más allá de trescientas como mucho, por lo que las casi sesenta de la colección Iglesias constituyen el conjunto más importante existente en Cataluña y fuera de ella.

Entre la loza policroma barcelonesa de la primera mitad del siglo XVII existente en la colección, datada entre 1620 y 1650 más o menos, hay que destacar trece piezas de vajilla de una gran personalidad (fig. 1-13). Se trata de obras muy escasas y difíciles de encontrar. Por lo que hace a los botes de farmacia de ese período, la colección cuenta con cinco ejemplares de estilo renacentista obrados muy probablemente por Onofre Rodergues en los años 1624 y 1625, según sugiere la documentación recientemente hallada referida a esos encargos (fig. 14 a 18). En cuanto a los azulejos de oficios, se publican varios ejemplares de "marco azul", bellas piezas elaboradas entre 1640 y 1650 (fig. 57).

La loza policroma leridana de la colección Iglesias comprende 21 piezas (fig. 19 a 39), lo cual supone un conjunto considerable dado lo exiguo de los restos conservados. Se trata de piezas de la segunda mitad del siglo XVII cuya cronología se debe dividir en dos períodos. El primero de ellos, correspondiente a la decoración a base de hojas partidas, se sitúa entre 1650-1675 y denota una gran influencia de Talavera (fig. 21 a 30) existiendo una pieza en el reverso de la cual figura la fecha de 1659 (fig. 21). El segundo, que se sitúa entre 1675 y 1700 aproximadamente, se corresponde con las series de la mazorca (fig. 31 y 32) y sus derivaciones (fig. 33 y 34) así como con las piezas que podríamos denominar de influencia de Liguria (fig. 35 a 38).

La loza policroma barcelonesa de la segunda mitad del siglo XVII debe iniciarse hacia 1670 y perdurar hasta 1700 más o menos. Tanto las piezas de vajilla (fig. 40 a 56) como los botes (fig.51) y azulejos (fig. 58 a 65) presentan una tonalidad amarillo anaranjada característica y una gran profusión de flores parecidas a las margaritas y tulipanes. Abundan en ellas los temas a base de floreros, personajes, animales, barcos y edificios, lográndose piezas de una gran belleza. Por su vistosidad y rareza, constituye quizás el grupo más apreciado por el coleccionismo.

SUMMARY

Josep Iglesias Brucart began collecting ceramics in the seventies. Over thirty-five years he was able to form one of the most important collections of Catalan ceramics in existence, containing approximately one thousand arts and crafts tiles, over one hundred pieces of the Catalan blue wares of the 17^th and 18^th century, several dozen drug jars and, most importantly, close to 60 polychrome pieces of various shapes, from the 17^th century.

The greatest period in history of the Catalan ceramics was between 1620 and 1720, when the Italian influences reached Catalonia, both directly and indirectly. The connection with the Tuscan production centres of Pisa and Montelupo were the first to become evident, followed by the ones with Deruta and the Ligurian centres. Unfortunately the surviving objects from that period are quite scarce, at most approximately three hundred pieces, which makes the almost sixty pieces in the Iglesias collection the most important group within and outside Catalonia.

Thirteen pieces (Fig. 1 to 13) of the polychrome faience of Barcelona from the first half of the 17^th century (approximately between 1620 and 1650), deserve special mention for their great personality. They are especially rare and sought after. As for the drug jars of that period, the collection contains five of the renaissance style (Fig. 14 to 18), possibly the work of Onofre Rodergues between 1624 and 1625, according to a recently found document of that commission. As to the arts and crafts tiles, several beautiful samples of the "blue frame" type, dated between 1640 and 1650 (Fig. 57), are being published.

A group of polychrome stoneware from Lerida includes 21 pieces (Fig. 19 to 39) which constitutes a considerable number, given the scarcity of preserved remainders from that centre. The objects in question date from the second half of the 17^th century, from two chronologically distinct periods: The first of them, between 1650 and 1675, corresponding to the decoration with "divided leaves", shows clearly the great influence of Talavera (Fig. 21 to 30). One of the plates actually bears the date 1659 (Fig. 21) an the reverse. The second period, between 1675 and 1700 approximately, corresponds to the series "spikes" (mazorca) (Fig. 31 and 32) and its derivations (Fig. 33 and 34), as well as the pieces we could denominate of "Ligurian influence" (Fig. 35 to 38).

The collection's polychrome faience of Barcelona from the second half of the 17^th century should be considered from around 1670 until more or less 1700. The plates (Fig. 40 to 56) as well as the pots (Fig. 51) and tiles (Fig. 58 to 65) show a characteristic yellow/orange colour and a great profusion of flowers, similar to the "marguerites and tulips". The decorative central subjects consist mostly of flower bouquets, personages, animals, ships and buildings, creating pieces of great beauty. Due to its rarity and attractiveness it is probably the group most appreciated by collectors.
